Local Charity Events - Within the project our Project Officer and Treasurer take part in charity fundraising.  In May 2006 they raised £2,000 for Breast Cancer - £1,000 went to the Maggie's Centre in Edinburgh and £1,000 to Cancer Research in Glasgow, by walking the West Highland Way, they said "it was a hard trek but, most enjoyable".  They also work closely with St. Andrew's Hospice in Airdrie.  They have taken part in treks to the Camino de Santiago (Northern Spain) and the Canadian Rockies and have signed up to walk sections of the Great Wall of China in March 09.

Having recently returned from China after taking part in the "Great Wall of China Challenge" in April 09.   Together they raised £6,000 by holding various charity events -A Bingo night in Caldercuix, Fish Supper Night in Chapelhall - from these two nights alone they managed to raise over £1,000.  Then it was an Italian night at Da Claudio Restaurant in Motherwell followed by a Race night again in Chapelhall.

On returning they said, "We can't thank eveyone enough that helped us reach our target, without your kindness and support we would not have managed to make this possible". "From the children that attended the bingo night, the home-bakers, tea makers, selling tickets for the raffle prizes and race night and not forgetting everyone that donated gifts and the many bottles of spirits".  "Thank you, all".

If there is any new charity events coming up, I am aure they will let us know.  Watch this space for further information.

PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY - We have started our "Community Garden of Light" collection.

We have been given a piece of ground within the community centre to create our community garden.   This is a community project that we hope will get everyone involved.  The members of our youth groups as well as the full community will have the opportunity to help with this project.   We will have a paved area with raised flower beds and possibly a couple of benches.

We are also intending to make this area a focal point at Christmas with the installation of a decorated Christmas tree.  The community would then be invited for the "turning on of the lights" and the local children from both primary schools would entertain everyone with some carol singing.  Mulled wine and traditional mince pies for all and with a lot of fingers crossed, a visit from Santa!

Look out for our collection tins which will appear in the local shops and pubs, but if you would like to donate a larger sum of money please come along to the Project Office (during office hours) or phone us on 01236 843503.
